GURU MA'S SUDDEN DECISION TO ARRIVE AT OUR HOME
That was the most blessed day in the lives of four of us in our family. My dad got conveyed the news that on such aand such date at such and such time, Guru ma is arriving at our place to bless us. Now imagine the sinking with gratitude feeling for us, that the divine who was sought after by thousands of top Industrialists like Jaipurias, eminent bureaucrats and topmost politicians like the then Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi has decided to come to our modest abode and family comprising of an ailing with Spinal Tuberculosis father, a school teacher mother and two little girls!!
Oh my God, my dad went berserk waiting for my mom to convey to her this BIG NEWS on her return from School duties. No cell phone, not even phone, my dad stood on the gate waiting for her desperately!! There mu mom arrives almost falling down from her push bike which she rode listening to this news/ She couldn't believe her ears and went into a tizzy making preparations for the same. Later on she would narrate this incident relating to Lord Rama's visit to the small kutiya of Bheelni Shabari!!
During His Exile even though hundreds of other yogis were waiting to receive Rama in their ashrams, Rama went only to Shabari's ashram because of her sincere devotion. On seeing Rama, Shabari became ecstatic and said, "There were so many exalted yogis waiting for your darshan, but you came to this unworthy devotee!!This clearly shows that you will neither see whether a devotee lives in a palace or humble hut, whether he is erudite or ignorant!!neither see caste nor color. You will only see the true bhakti. I do not have anything to offer other than my heart, but here are some berry fruits. May it please you, my Lord." Saying so, Shabari offered the fruits she had meticulously collected to Rama. When Rama was tasting them, Lakshmana raised the concern that Shabari had already tasted them and were, therefore, unworthy of being eaten. To this, Rama said that of the many types of food he had tasted, "nothing could equal these berry fruits, offered with such devotion. You taste them, then alone will you know. Whomsoever offers a fruit, leaf, flower or some water with love, I partake it with great joy."
So Shabri Saroj, my mother decided to do her best inviting all kith and kin, lot of Prasad and dressing up Guru ma in Devi Durga Swarupa!!
